Basically, you move the point where the selector cable attaches to the stick upwards. This means the stick can move less, and the cable can move the same amount (as the effective radius from the pivot point at the bottom of the gearstick is increased). You do loose a bit of leverage by doing this, but a nice weighty gearknob like the Skunk2 one compensates for that quite nicely
