He studied in Coventry a couple of years ago.

Out of curiosity, does anyone think us 4th genner's could cut out the lower black insert bit on our rear bumpers and achieve a similar result to Phil and his speed holes?

It'll let more air flow through from under the car but will also create more turbulance so 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other.

if you look underneath any race/touring car they are all panelled underneath its just to tidy up the airflow and stop any ridges or crossmembers slowing the airflow. They are trying to speed up the airflow making the car act like a wing in reverse the air over the top having further to go than the air under the car literally sucking the car down.
How much this will help a road car is up for debate the rear lip spoiler moves the natural air vortex that occurs in the low pressure area over the bootlid further back and reduces drag again how much real world effect it has on a road car is debatable.
