My Golf looks like it's been through Basra with the state of it's windscreen, got a pass on it's MOT though. The chips were all large and some were in the swept area on my side of the windscreen - I guess it's just down to how pedantic the tester wants to be. I though it should have failed but I wasn't complainingDonald wrote:Does anyone know the policy with regards to this and MOTs? I have a mate that works for Autoglass and can sort it for me, but not until next weekend.
It's within the wiper radius just, passenger side and the nearest size example I can give is about half the size of an uncooked grain of rice.

I got a nice does of fresh pits from an oncoming gritter last night as well
Not landed yet. I got here early plus the delay so I didn't go actually into Gatwick to park an hour and a bit ago, not paying too much for parking!
Went into Crawley (I think). I just stopped in the first town nearby
and bought some jobby from Tesco. That place is pretty big, has 2 floors! Can you tell how impressed I am?
ANYWAY. Now in airport and its been delayed another 15ish mins. Can't complain though since my dad had a 10 hour drive from where he was back to Sydney, then a 30 hour flight on top

For future reference re mots and stone chips/cracks
The screen is split into two "zones"
Zone A is the area of windscreen directly in front of you roughly the width of your steering wheel and within the wiper stroke.
10mm length or diameter is the maximum allowed for any stone chip or crack. There can be more than one providing they are not all grouped together in such a way as to impare vision.
Zone B is the remainder of the screen within the wiper stroke or "swept area"
Stone chips and cracks can be up to 40mm in this zone and again there can be more than one providing they are not grouped together to impare vision
A windscreen top tint/banner can also fail the test if it encroaches within the wiper stroke.
That's the regs, some testers are a bit more lenient on banners and swept area chips/cracks but others are just doing their job and protecting their backs so don't get too upset if your big crack or top tint fails
