I did think about fixing the old alternator but found a brand new one at a reasonable price.
The one i bought turned up today so had a good look at new and old side by side - only difference i can see is that the pulley is 65mm dia on the new one and 60mm on the old one - so new one is 5mm bigger dia on the pulley - depth and number of ribs is the same. I swapped over the one small bracket (a clip goes on top of that and this holds the loom in place). I dont think the pulley diametre is going to make any difference but i can always swap the old pulley over if needed.
Ive not tested it yet but will update once it is fitted.
