Ouch! indeed.

:jacked:

So what is the advantage with Iridium or Platinum? Power? Life? What's best? Anyone notice any difference?

Mainly life. There's a lot of hearsay about which give the best performance but I suspect the difference would be negligible in a proper blind test.

is there a set amount of time you should change plugs then? or just when they "look" old?

NGK coppers are rated for 30k miles, platinum 60k and iridium something like 100k.

How long they actually last will depend somewhat on how your engine is running, so worth checking them if you don't know when they were last done.

It'll be worth doing your gearbox oil too.

the copper standard were fine in mine with the oem leads. when i uprated to kv85 leads i made the mistake of buying the 4spark plugs (they do not work in a h22) so had the choice of platinum or iridium?
all my friends that bike race a thruxton were saying iridium are racing plugs and are put in only for high revs/extra burn, and then changed for road use.
so in a track slag iridium would be my choice, but for daily runner platinum as a half way/urban upgrade on oem is the way to go.
why upgrade to the daddy of leads and then kill their effect with restricted plugs?

ths was proved with my 1/5 petrol marder. iridium plug = 74 mph from a 30cc engine but no reliability, copper core = 60 mph but would chug away all day long with no glitches, and platinum plugs = 70 mph and reliable as hell!!! good enough for my R/C Marder good enough for my lude ;)
