but its not, its right at the start of the run. we will all be waking up and wanting to get going, not sit on a boat all morning! lol...
i dont speak from experience here!! I am game for the most cost effective/time effective way of getting over the water that gives us the shortest drive on the other end.
Any ideas what that might actually be?

Yep. If you're staying over near Dover, the boat won't feel too much like the start of a nice drive.
But if you're coming from a decent distance away, it's a nice break. We still use the boat even though our first leg is only about 2 hours. However, as Gayno mentions, you save only half an hour each way (and a gallon of petrol ...)
Whatever you choose, try to avoid going round Brussels in the rush hours. Or Lille. Or Antwerp.
