BB1 Scrapyard Dog - MOT pass
MOT Pass today - no advisories. 175,000miles (mix of km and mph)
Exhaust emissions very good - Basic Check.
Not bad for a 1991 car
AEM long arm intake has been removed as bracket need rewelded - had to back to 4th gen 60mm throttle body and used a 5th gen standard intake pipe with resonator/air meter removed.

BB1 Scrapyard Dog - cooling system
after fixing up the BB6 for the year ahead it was time to turn attention to the BB1
the coolant pipe from the block to the heater/water gate had a temp fix but had gone mushy again so this needed replaced and as i was draining the coolant it would be a good time to replace the thermostat just as a precaution. The hose is one made by gates as honda dont do the part anymore. The thermostat was new oem.






i also replaced the fast idle valve on the throttle body with new oem.
i never got to sort the idle completely as there seems to be a problem with the battery....lost the speedo and had some flickering lights on the dash. New Varta oem battery on order 70ah 630cc E23.
also noticed noise from the rear and the anti roll bar D bushes need replaced. the strongflex yellow ones on the car have lasted a few years but gone oval - ive also had same issue with the es poly ones on my old BB4 - in that they dont seem to last too many years. I have ordered up a set of oem spec rubber ones from ADL.

Refurbed Vtec Solenoid with new seals
Replaced distributor o ring
Fitted new Varta OEM battery
Carbon wrapped roof trims as old ones had started to peel. New moulding clips
New o/s/r Roll Bar D bush
Thats enough mechanical work done for the time being.
I will switch my attention to cleaning up and re-undersealing the sills and rear arches.

Sills and arches will be getting a treatment of bilt hamber clear under coat wax.
Note: still have slight binding brake caliper n/s/f

More work done:
o/s/r caliper sticking - wound back in - all ok.
new rear brake pads (courtesy of merlin)
new distributor rotor arm and cap
distributor timing set ok
swapped out throttle body and fitv
(previous brand new fitv i fitted had failed)
rock solid idle at 750rpm but slightly lazy fitv means it idles at 1200rpm from cold (should be 1500rpm) - but no big issue so just leaving it as is.

BB1 Scrapyard Dog - cooling system
I forgot to post up the pics of the crud that had collected under the roof trims. I only took them off as the top clear layer on the rails had delaminated. I cleaned all the crud out - no rust so gave it some wax and then wrapped the roof rails in 4D carbon fibre and put them back
in place with new clips.
