Anyone else think they might be a little alcohol dependent?

Both me and my wife were married to alcoholics. Jenny was married to one who knocked her and the children off the walls for 27 years(back then there was no support for her and the police did not want to know thank god that has changed) I was married to one for 22 years and was nearly killed by stabbing and almost bankrupted by her 2 bottle of scotch a day habit.
We met at Al-anon(for relatives and friends of alcoholics) and have been together since 1989 and very happy.
A couple of questions answered and a bit of advice
Why didn't you leave?
It creepes up on you a bit at a time and as someones drinking gets worse you tend to accept it as normal. Also an alcoholic is very devious and blames you for their drinking and also strips away all your self worth(who would want me)
Do I drink now having lived through that?
Yes but in moderation but I have one golden rule that I don't break.
If I would like a drink I will have one, if I NEED a drink(to blot the day out or any other crap)I will not have one. Take it from me that is a slippery slope.
If you recognise yourself on either side of this fence please contact AA(alcoholics anonymous) or Al-Anon
I have nothing against social drinking and people enjoying a social life but when it gets out of hand you can ruin your life and those that you love. Also you can destroy your health or end up killing yourself or others.

I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

As strange as it is to say this, I totally agree with Paul!!
After my accident 4 1/2 years ago which a few of you will remember, I turned to alcohol. I would wake up and drink a few bottles of beer before breakfast. I got in a bad state because of it. I had reasons for drinking excessively at the time, and I still have my reasons for drinking now, but it has gone from a crate of beer a day to a crate a week. Alcohol doesn't help, it just numbs.
I have had problems with alcohol abuse at other times in my life, but being on tour with a rock, punk or metal band, if all you're doing is alcohol then you're being sensible!
