Headlights stopped working.

Post by Bludge » Sat Dec 20, 2014 5:21 pm

My headlights have had an intermittant problem for a while now, they were cutting out occasionall when switching from normal to high beam, and sometimes they wouldnt come on on the first twist of the switch but would work after a few goes, they also cut out once when i was driving of their own accord.
i got into the car yesterday and they arent working at all now. side lights come on and the dash dims, but no headlights.
any ideas where to start trouble shooting?

As in the actual stalk switch bit yeah?
I was thinking that because its dimming the dash that would indicate the switch might be ok, ut i think i hae a spare knocking round so will swap them over tomorrow and test it.

Is it likely to be the headlight relay? thats what i was thinking, and i have had loads of relays go lately!

Yea defo sounds like the switch. It can be removed and taken apart. You can clean the contacts as that usually fixes the issue. ;) ;)

Cleaned the contacts on the switch and tried another switch that was working fine when i took it out and still no lights.
Gonna try the relay next as all fuses look ok. its the big black one right?
