Claymores BB9 Motegi ish

Post by claymore68 » Sat Feb 21, 2015 5:22 pm

Thought it was time to start the Ludes profile as it is now starting to look a bit more worth while.
Originally had a lovely blue 2.2 which after 220000 miles gave up the ghost but I loved her. i would have waited for another 2.2 but the BB9 turned up via a freind and had just over 20000 miles on the clock and was priced very low so I took her.
I drove her for a few years driving from Glasgow to Reading for business and slowly racked up the miles and didnt have time or money to show her the love , then work changed and this is how she looked.

Bit sad to be fair.
However got rid of the rubbish side skirts and rear standard lip and pulled together a complete Motegi kit in varous colours.
Good lady let me use conseratory as spray shop.

While doing body kit got cheap set of Speedlines which were knackered so .

To this.

Once the body kit was on with the wheels she looked ok.

but when you looked closely you could see the rust issues starting to appear on the back arches and the boot lock. I tried to do some repairs my self such as the boot lock.
Image
Image

The repairs didnt last long and she only just scraped through the MOT due to the jack points being completly rust rotten.
Also the rear quarters were pretty bad.

I arranged for the car to go into Steve Walkers Bodyshop in Bathgate to do quarter panels jack points and boot lock.
Im waiting on pics of the work done as it became a bit of a mission for the guys, once recieved ill get them up as its amazing what they managed.Cant give them enough credit as they were superb.

Boot Lock now

While waiting for bodyshop slot got the alloys done in Dutch Silver and they look very nice now.

Issue with wheels was that powder coaters wont do center caps so down to me again with that problem.

Not to bad if I say so myself :D
Just need a dry day to get a polish and some decent pics done and I think thats it for body work for a while.

Next mission is suspension while trying to squeeze max out of the little 2ltr.

Also must add a big thanks to Vanzep who supplied Disks for her which worked a treat.

That's how it starts.

Like pegging. "Just a fingertip" they say, "nothing too excessive".

Hi Rob , think we have had this convo before and I would love to, I have asked about up here as Im not mechanical enough to do it myself, this was one of the responses ,this is from Andrew Baird in east kilbride and they do a lot of high end race stuff.
Good Morning Craig,

Given my previous experience with the F20 engine, my advice would be to save yourself a lot of time / hassle / money and look into the option of an H22 swap. The following problems occur with turboing the F20...

Standard rods / pistons in my opinion are not sufficient for boost (est rods £400, pistons £400)
The longevity of the stock liners would be questionable (rough costing for sleeving a 4cylinder engine block £800-£1000)

This obviously does not include the cost of a decent turbo kit which could also run into the thousands, engine management, oil feed / return, a free flowing exhaust system, mapping etc... As you can see it soon adds up.

If your power goal is somewhere in the 200-220hp range, then your best value for money option would be to fit an H22A7 and LSD gearbox (accord type R items) or better still, sell your 2.0 prelude and trade up to an import Prelude Type S, the cost of which would amount to far less than the cost of boosting your existing engine.

Regards,
Kevin.

Thoughts anyone :?:
