Removing rear speakers

Post by A1ex » Sun May 20, 2012 6:22 am

The 'bitchin' ripspeed rear speakers that were in the lude when I got it  have started cracking so are going to be in the bin soon.

Are the OEM front speakers up to being in the car on their own or would the need up rating? I'm not planning on a sound system build at any point just want to be able to hear them loud an clear over the exhaust (decated) without any distortion or blowing them.

If they do need uprating, any recommendations?

Cheers Folks

Anything over stock IMO. It depends on your budget?

My budget is pretty non-existant to be honest between the uprfront work for the CF and saving for a house. Could get £100 together if I had to, I appreciate you can't get much for that. At which point could I even get something better than OEM for that money?

Would I need to put a sub in if I was only using the front speakers or are they 'ok' with the low range stuff? I'm not looking for perfect audio, just something that doesn't sound like it's coming from an ipod speaker.

You can get sub bass from front speakers but they
- Need to be solidly installed.
- Sealed doors and deadened
- Low FS midbass
- POWER
- high Sensitivity

OEM speakers tend to be midbass heavy so you could get some OEM speakers from another car and fit them. For example VW speakers are generally very good and may suit you well. Search ebay for a set of 6.5" VW compoinents etc.

@a1ex: i have just done a full instal on mine. I will be getting a build thread up as soon as i get chance. Im more than happy to chuck you the stuff iv got over.. I might have some stuff hanging about as well ;)
Imo ditch the rears and upgrade the fronts. Throw in a little sounddeadening in key areas and you will be in a better place.

Cheers dude :)

I must say I do like your cast offs :D I was thinking the whole setup should be a little lighter with the rear speakers out too

 i was agonising about the extra 10kg i was putting back into the car last night but i justified it because its all low and over the rear axle 8-)

its the most authorative instal iv ever done i think. just a little rattle chasing and tuning and its perfect.

Once you put a 15kg sub on the back of the rear seat you forget everything.
