Removing 5th gen doors

Post by RattyMcClelland » Mon Jun 04, 2012 8:32 pm

Who has removed 5th gen doors.
Im aware its basically a jack to hold the doors up and some big ass mother bolts.
I want to respray my rear quarter panels and spray down the pillars and the whole door jams. I can do it with the door open but taking the door off makes sense as i can respray the door at the same time getting the edges that have hit walls etc.

And yes iv read the manual.

i picked up a door when the red one got jacked

the rubber trunk is a clip and then the door 'clicker'/hoder is two bolts then you go for the main bolts. in that order should see you right mate ;)

Excellent, you can see the soft mask lines in the door jams from previous resprays, i want it done properly by myself. 8-) .

I can just see you standing up typing away over your snake.

But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

You also need to unplug the wiring loom and feed that through the bung hole, 4g's it's connected under the dash so you need to remove the under parts of the drivers side to get to the plugs

Oh and if your taking the door off, I'd really recommend a second pair of hands, more so when refitting as they are F'ing heavy

The way I did it was to take the front wing off, leave the door shut with the window down. undo the mounting bolts that attach the hinge to the door, the door stay and unplug the loom.

If you keep a bit of pressure on the forward edge door with your knee while you undo the bolts you can just grab the window frame and lift the handle and the whole lot comes away clean. Saves messing around with wobbly jacks and stuff.

Refit it the opposite way. Lay a blanket across the sill in case the door drops a bit and just push the door onto the latch hold it in place and get some bolts in. :)

And Ammo is right - they are stupidly heavy.
