all the redex drained out of the chambers

hey guys,

so i have been trying a few things to cut down the amount of smoke coming out my zhorst.

i have had some luck to be honest.

my question is this.

i warmed the engine up

i took out the plugs, disconnected the dizzy and popped 10 ml of redex in each chamber.

I then tuned the engine over on the starter to get all the partsd nice and wet with it.

i then glugged in 35ml to each chamber and let it sit for an hour.

I came back expecting to still be able to see redex in each chamber...... it had drained down in every one

what does this signify? would you expect this to happen or would you expect the seal between rings, piston and chamber wall to be tight enough to hold liquid?

im not worried about contaminating the oil as its getting flushed again after a hard drive, im just interested in thoughts/experience's and knowledge of cleaning out combustion chambers and how liquid tight the ringland seals should be?

IIRC i seen something like this on one of the motoring shows

they had poured petrol onto top of the pistons (head was off) and the one that drained was the one with knackered piston rings,

BUT that was what they were looking for

just stick a compression tester on there, i have one here you can borrow, you will have to pay the postage though

probably better to use a leakdown tester IMO

forgive my ignorance but what is the difference with compression test and leakdown test?

it wont really make any difference, if the rigs,bores knackerd it will be down on compression

compression testing is more of a comparison test ideal to diagnose head gasket faults or problems with the valve train
