Dont know for certain, but I think it becomes a 'non cat test' and so much less stringent. Theres no mention of imports being any different on the directgov website, but this suggests there are differences.

Print off the flowchart and take it with you to show them if they don't believe you.
Check the registered date of your car first so you know for a fact. It should be on your V5. :geek:

From my experience with my ancient Golf, it's soley down to manufacture date mate. Pre September 92 I think it is, and no cat is required and your CO reading just has to be under 3%. My Golf has no cat and the carb is pissing fuel into the cylinders but it was still only reading at 1.5% so I wonder if a fuel injected car might scrape through emissions wise without a cat? Cars built after September 92 are required to have a cat and meet more stringent emission standards though, so do they check for the cat physically? My tester seemed to think it was definitely based on the individual car's manufacture date btw as I was interested in this RE my engine swap on the Accord - modern car but with engine manufactured from before '92. So all in all I reckon you're going to need a cat mate :( unless you can get a Saturday MOT from a friendly local garage? ;)
