How to ensure you don't get an MOT!
As you may have seen from a couple of my posts The Soarer has been in the wars so here is the latest instalment.
1 Car goes into the bodyshop where I took the Lude to have the dent repaired and in this price they also did my boot spoiler. I also paid to have the entire rear bumper resprayed and a little bit of rust under the drivers door capping and the keying on the door done. so that was an entire door respray. £140 good price.
2 The plan then was for them to take the car to my garage who would take it for a MOT so far so good. I had not seen the car at this stage.
3 Garage guy jumps in the car and takes it for an MOT without checking anythiing.
4 Epic Fail as follows
Rear brake lights inoperative
N/side rear light inoperative
No drivers door mirror(not strictly true as it was on the back seat along with the door card ,trim and switches)
Blue lights showing at the front( there are 3 pretty blue lights each side in the headlamp cluster) he said there would be no problem with that Ha!
Both front tyes scrubbed on the inside(they are 235 or 245 18's) so thats a few bob then.
An advisory re the rear discs which look horrible but are in limits and work so at £100 each they will not be done yet.
Car goes back in on tuesday to have a new window regulator fitted and another go at the MOT.
When I went to pick the car up today the bodyshop had done a good job apart from the spoiler whick had a ridge of paint in the middle about 2" long so they will have to attend to that and the car was filthy inside and out. It had obviously been parked up near where they had been sanding something else Inside is full of it as well(dont forget no drivers window at this stage) Also where it had been masked up it had obviously got a dose of overspray witth clearcoat.
Still a pleasent couple of hours cleaning it took care of all that and it gleams now.
Comedy moment.
When I picked it up this morning. The garage had taped the window up with ducktape pending the arrival of said window regulator.
I get in the car to move it and then wanted to get out again and say goodbye to my neighbour who took me over to colect it. Wrong! no handles or electrics on the drivers door and being disabled I could not climb over the centre consul to get out of the passenger door. Only option was to open the sunroof and wave at him to come over and let me out. He followed me home and repeated the process. I found the door and window controls in the boot so I have now plugged them in and are held against the door with duck tape.
BTW the whole door was sprayed and duck tape is on the new paint at the top of the door frame, I wonder what will happen when that is removed?

Well the car now has an MOT but it still has the window taped up and no trim inside or out. The window regulator correctly ordered from the Lexus Soarer Owners club was incorrectly delivered by Japarts so I got the left hand one. Phoned Japarts who were very pleasant and said they would get the correct part sent straight away. That was at 4.10pm yesterday. by 4.45 I got a text from DPD who stated it would be delivered today. Well that is moving quickly in my book to rectify a mistake.
I wonder if they do Honda parts I forgot to ask?

Yes and it did! The paint came off with the tape. The sprayer lost the clips for the chrome window surround and weather strip as well! Someone is paying to get this done. But not me or there will be blood on the floor!honda-hardy wrote:epic issuesgood luck. Let the garage remove the tape on the door so if it goes pear shaped then you have come back.

Well the car was taken away on tuesday to have the window fixed. It was brought back late friday night.
All working OK was the quote from the garage bloke, but I would spray some WD 40 down the front runner every 2 weeks or so" Saturday morning on lowering the window the rear end went faster than the front first time I used it. Second time I used it it went OK.
I had ownly lowered it half way. Went to raise it BANG
back to square one screwed again. I managed with the help of a passing young lad to pull it back up to the closed position! So what the hell is going wrong with this window it seems to be beyond the garage to fix it?
Do we have any Toyota mechanics on here with any answers to this?

you need to send the garage a prepay invoice for taking it to a proper garage.
I have to ask mate, what exactly of all this were you getting done for £140?
you have to draw a line under this and take it somewhere else mate. the stress chemicals being constantly released by your brain are taking days off your life. Report the garage to trade and standards and go else where.

If it was the whole lot I have to ask what kind of job you honestly though was going to get done for that much money nowadays? £140 would be lucky to cover the materiel for the job's listed imo.As you may have seen from a couple of my posts The Soarer has been in the wars so here is the latest instalment.
