TDi Golf issues - No power

Post by Ammo » Mon May 27, 2013 2:54 pm

My golf has gone tit's up. It's a Mk3 1.9 TDi with the 1z engine

Basically I was overtaking some silly bint that was sat 2 foot from the car in front of her so she was constantly braking, and got to about 75 and it was like I'd hit a limiter.

After that no power and limited boost 0.5bar instead of 0.9, no acceleration 0-55mph in about 5 minutes and it won't do 60

Been playing with it today, tried it with and without the MAF connected and that doesn't seem to make any difference. It does seem now to be boosting back at 0.9bar but it's still slow as feck

I have noticed loads of bubbles in the clear pipe to the fuel pump, this doesn't appear to effect the running while reving the engine while not moving

I've not got Vagcom at the mo to see if there are any errors on the ecu, but should have by the weekend

Anyone able to help?

Check all hoses, sometimes a popped vac hose will put you instantly in limp home mode.

Just left the battery disconnected for 10 mins, took it for a spin. No power what so ever and it won't boost over 0.5bar. Disconnected the MAF and it went better and boosted to 0.9bar.

So I take it the MAF is fecked?

As above, are you definite all the hoses are connected correctly? This would be my first port of call for a lack of boost. My mate's T4 van went through a phase of blowing one of the turbo hoses and it would become absolutely lifeless, no go whatsoever and would produce jobby loads of black smoke. Another thing to check, it may be worth removing an inlet hose and trying to turn the turbine by hand in order to check it's turning freely.

You shouldn't have bubbles in the return pipe.

You could try bleeding it, but there's probably a leak somewhere.

Better still, SCRAP IT & get something that VTECs instead.

Bubbles are in the to pipe not the return

Going to get a new filter tomorrow, apparently they can leak on the return side and give you bubbles

jjmartin349571 - It doesn't smoke at all and the boost gauge is still reading proper boost when the MAF is disconected. I've gone over all the pipes and although they aren't in the best shape, they don't appear to be leaking.

Think I'll get some vacuum hoses to replace them just to make sure

My bad, I don't get BAR so I wasn't sure if the figures were good or bad :lol:

Hope you get it sorted soon mate! I love those mk3 wagons, they're epic!

0.5 = 7.25psi
0.9 = 13psi

;)

it went better with the MAF sensor off? well its a no brainer for me lol

if there was a leak in the intercooler pipen it would smoke a fair bit as it wouldnt have enough air to mix with the fuel,

if the vac hoses had anything to do with it it wouldnt boost to 0.9 with the maf of, you can visualy inspect the vac hoses if you want, or blow through them while blocking the other end. testing the actuators is simple, suck on the pipe and put your tongue on the end and see if it holds the pressure, if the actuator starts returning the diaphragm inside is shot.

But its the MAF, disconnecting the MAF should make the car run like and absolute bag of spanners.

I think when it doesn't get the MAF signal it puts it into a "safe" map
