MW3 (PS3) Noob Question

Having been away from gaming for a good while (Although I can remember BASIC on a VIC20...), I got a PS3 some months ago and am revelling in the delights of Modern Warfare 3 (And GT5, mostly).

I have one friend who's a long term PS3 guy but just starting on MW3, so we're both useless.

Can anyone tell me....
Apart from having our own room and chasing each other round, is there a way we can both join the same room in the public rooms (Whether Free for All or Team Deathmatch/whatever)? I am too thick to figure out how

(Assuming it's possible?)

My little on snapped my mw3 disk, gutted as I was in the top 15,000 in the world out 15M on Xbox 360.

^^^^ That is fairly unbelievable. Mad skills mate. Is he old enough to be sent up a chimney to fund Black Ops?

Edit: Scratch that. You can gaffer tape them to a stick when they're really small, I've been told. (Result!)
