5th Gen 4ws

Post by hshone » Mon Sep 23, 2013 8:09 pm

Hi all,

Anybody know what happened to PreludeUK?? I haven't been on the prelude forums on a while and it just doesn't work.

I have a question for you all:

I cocked up my 4ws motor a while ago getting it shot blasted. So I bought a new one, (2nd hand). I have since had my steering wheel off the car and broke the ribbon cable.. MY BAD! Got a replacement part works fine..

I went to start it up the other day having completed the work a while ago now, and there was a whine from the rear (4ws related). And the light appeared on the dash, I have done the reset procedure and it works fine for about a min or so then it flashes up and stops working. I have done the fault code part and its reading 20 – Main Steering Angle Sensor Front (2 long flashes no short)

What I would like to know is this the one on the steering rack or is it the one behind the steering wheel? I’m thinking it might be the one behind the steering wheel as its where fart arsed around with it and probably didn’t put it back all too straight, so wouldn’t be reading a straight value so to speak. Is there any way to test this via a multi meter say to get an output?

Yeah that is the front one:

Pic taken from page 17-5 of the 4th gen service manual (http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/medi ... index.html) which is a good place to go to see how it might come off. We dont have a 5th gen manual with 4WS in it.

I would replace it with a different one.

So easiest thing you guys reckon would be to change the whole thing over. If im not mistaken it has the stalks on it etc...

What about the main sensor? Every thing else seems to be working just fine?

Looking at the steering coloumn there is no sensors apart from the reel behind the steering wheel
All tht is on the colomn is the barrel stalks and the central locking key module

One sensor on back of the rear 4ws rack (motor),
One sensor which i think is the main angle sensor on front steering rack
Ecu in boot for 4ws and the reel behind steering wheel
I just looked at all the parts as i just broken one
