Ideal idle?

Post by lucylou » Wed Feb 15, 2012 4:30 pm

What should my idle speed be roughly? It's looking like five hundred odd which is too slow yeh? It's almost stalling on take off unless I give it plenty of beans. Why would this happen, does the timing and stuff drift over time? Thanks :)

I thought that 700rpm to 900rpm is the recommended warm idle for 4th gens and most likely for 5th gens as well.
If it feels like its near stalling at 500-550rpm then i would adjust it to 700rpm and see how that feels.

Mine always looks like it's sitting around 550-600, but last MOT said 788.

According to the sticker on the bonnet, my 4th gen is 750 +/- 50.

5th Gen manual says 700 rpm +/- 50 rpm. It is always difficult to read the the counter though. Sometimes mine looks like it is 550 rpm other times it looks like it is about 750 rpm. What happens if you give the car a small amount of throttle. Does the RPM settle to a higher rate or does it go all the way to about 0 then bounce back up?
