PC Guru's - Help needed!

Post by rob quilter » Thu Mar 26, 2015 12:52 pm

So every time I turned my PC on it displayed a message saying that the CMOS battery voltage was low, and to press F1 to continue. This morning it stopped turning on altogether, I had a old knackered PC laying around, so I swapped the battery from the knackered one into my working one.

But it still brings up the low voltage message, and won't go past it when I hit F1.

The PC is nothing special and is a few years old, any ideas what's wrong with it?

If it's a laptop it sounds like the charger could be on it's way. Is it the original charger which came with it?

That battery is a little battery on the motherboard that allows the BIOS to remember its settings. Maybe the battery you swapped in isn't up to it and you need a brand new one?

Just go buy a new battery - it's like a couple of quid :)

It's entirely possible the battery you've just swapped in is just as dead as the one you took out - especially if it's come from an older PC.
