 hoisted by your own petard!

To be honest, I'm surprised that the fishy man doesn't realise that he will lose out whatever... If they vote no, he's lost, if they vote yes, he'll be the guy that destroyed Scotland by having no plan of action whatsoever and just a large chip on his shoulder.

What bugs me most, is the fact that only the Scottish have the right to vote on an issue that affects us all within the union. As an Englishman, I don't give a fig if Scotland decides to leave the union, more fool them, but I believe that unity is strength and fundamentally agree with the union. I ironically think that if the other members of the union had the vote, then we'd probably vote to allow the scots to go forth and multiply

Blikin 'eck, that would take some reading, and that's only monetary policy!! They'd be fools if they left the union and the oil has no longterm benefit, either.

I'm concerned about the pound being weakened by the split, apparently it's already down.

As for sentiment I don't really have any, I don't mean to sound harsh but I've got no emotional ties to Scotland and personally it no longer being a part of the union wouldn't cause me heartache, likewise I have no objection to Scotland staying.

Something I would like to know is what is the cost implication?? Does Scotland generate more revenue for the union than it costs to run in simple terms. Someone must have an idea of the taxes collected vs public spending? All I've heard in the news so far is politics speak, no real information regarding if it's going to improve or worsen the deficit we have.

Also will Scotland take a proportion of the national debt with it? If not, and it's a case of independence means a clean slate, then maybe England should duck out first and leave the rest of the union with the bill

I don't feel like there are a lot of facts being fed to us about what this really means for any of us tbh :?

It's interesting that the UK government (speaking on behalf of England?) resisted the option of adding 'devo max' to next week's referendum, yet is now offering more scope to Holyrood as a way of trying to persuade voters to say 'no'.

Similarly, had the West Lothian question been sorted properly, along with attendant agreements for devolved non-English parliaments, the Scots might now feel that some equality and fairness was already in place and the plebiscite would have been unnecessary.

It's a huge waste of money, I'd say.

Sailor, the UK Government didn't resist the devo max option being on the ballot paper. Westminster/Cameron very much wanted it, but lost/relinquished it in negotiations with Salmond who really wanted to get rid of it for reasons that apparently are only now a lot more obvious to a lot of people.

Currently on my phone so can't be arsed with too much faffing with trying to find exact figures, but I'm sure I heard the 7% figure being bandied about somewhere with regards to tax contributions.

Lol, it matters not what the 'people' might want. The result has been decided and we will all get used to it what ever it is the powers that be have decided to do. Scotland will stay with the union and it will then be told to get in line with westminster on all the things it thinks its won back over the last 100 years. Tax will go up, free prescriptions? PAH! free university for everyone?? See ya.

I find it a bit tasteless that we still have troops stationed in N Ireland, somewhere you have to cross the F ucking sea to get to, and that people were getting killed less than 20 years ago for the very thing we are giving scotland, attached to the same bit of land as england lest we forget, on a plate. What is it? The scots have been good little vassels for the last few centuries so we are letting them believe they can choose their future? Its a joke.

Either way we can all look forward to the Scots having a few years rennassance of being more 'Scottish' whichever way it goes. More whisky and battered pies will go down in the next 3 years than in the last 30 I bet you and bloody fair play too.

But I tell you what, If scotland go they had better bloody stay gone. Drunken texts telling us it was all a mistake and that you miss us and want to come back 6 years down the line will be met with derision and the biggest slap in the face you can imagine. To be honest the loss of face for scotland to have to beg to come back under our protection, after the total failure of their little experiment, would almost be humiliation enough. Almost.

If Scotland goes it alone there will be blood in the streets within a decade. There are not enough people willing to work hard enough, too much poverty and social disinclination and far too little education on what it means to be an independent country for one to be built... Too many Scot companies who will have to decide where to base themselves and decide just over the boarder is the better bet....

I am not sure how it would pan out a few weeks after a yes vote. I imagine very much like many people wandering about wondering what to do next now that the boss has gone to lunch. Nothing really getting done but a lot of talking and noise being made.

I point this towards the 'masses' who are endemic across the nation (UK), not to all scots obviously. I just cant see the thinking scot being able to rouse the rab c nesbits in the sink estates to actually get up and be free. freedom comes at a price and i dont think the 60% at the bottom of the pile understand this.
