When there are League Of Legends championships, there are millions of people watching. ESPN a month or so ago broadcast a LoL tournament, and they claimed to have 11 million unique viewers.
People enjoy watching skill-based games - whether that's the "traditional" sports, or "modern" sports (people are calling it e-sports) - the only difference is that one has been watched for longer than the other.
Good on them for branching out and showing something a little different from the norm
