Yeah been looking myself, I think I may just stick with my current setup. Doesn't cost that much to keep my linux pc running 24/7 really

I've got a cheap PC set up running Windows Home Server with about 4.5TB of storage, and my USB printer plugged into it.

My barebones is from OcUK and is based on the Core2 stuff, with a cheap dual-core Celeron chip. The current equivalent would be something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x "Primo 510i" Intel H61 DDR3 Ready Barebones (Socket 1155) £66.98
1 x Intel Celeron G530 2.40GHz Socket LGA 1155 Processor - Retail £32.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (TW3X4G1333C9A) £22.99
Total : £140.66 (includes shipping : £14.75).

Throw in a couple of hard drives and run FreeNAS or Windows Home Server, and you'll have a very capable and extendible system :)

^^Nice, a little too much for my needs. If I did alot of torrenting or somthing that needs a bit of grunt (protien folding ) I'd go down that route. In the end I bit the bullet and went for this:

http://www.ebuyer.com/143121-netgear-rn ... 110-100uks

I had to phone Ebuyer to get them to search for NAS drives with both WOL and print server as the website wasn't able to do this easily. Slightly on the expensive side but hopefully it will last 10+ years like my old one 8-)

Unfortunately now is still not a great time to be buying anything with mechanical hard drives - following the floods in Thailand last year the prices are still really high because the manufacturing plants have still yet to be rebuilt.

My last 2TB drive I purchased for around £55, now they're at least £90. At least they've come down from the ~£200 they were at the height in November time!

Yeah large capacity drives are a pain in the ass at the moment. Mind you all the new PC's im building at the moment have SATA III solid state drives. The best price for a 1TB I could find is around £70.

I know it's too late, but I've got a Zyxel NSA221. Great little box, 2 drive bays which will run RAID 1 to keep data safe. Built in torrent client to download over night, power scheduling to power it down while you're not at home, can be used as a print server etc etc and only £45! (minus drives)

You sure about the print server bit? The Zyxel website doesn't mention it.

If anyone knows Netgear NAS drives well enough to wonder why I got the one I did and not the V2 version of it, the V2 doesn't have a print server.

I got a ReadyNAS Ultra 4. It has 4 bays, but using 2 of the bays at the moment. 2 x 2TB drives with RAID configured - very useful since one of my drives failed recently. Netgear replaced the drive with no quibble at all. The drive auto rebuilt with no problems. Puchased from misco who had a deal on at the time.

Does print, file, pnp, torrent, ftp, mysql, php, plex, xbox, ok community and lots of addon's you can load on.

Netgear do 2 bays variants too. Make sure you research your model numbers, there is the old chipset and the new chipset and alot of people are selling the old chipset quite cheap. The newer chipset has much better performance for streaming.
