If you don't need HDMI input, then you should be able to pick up a load of really good AV high-end receivers from ~2006ish for next to nothing now.
My Yamaha DSP-AX757SE was an expensive bit of kit when I purchased it - but since everything now has gone HDMI, it's worth practically nothing any more. However, if you feed it with optical or a 5.1 analog signal, it's still amazing, and with my B&W speakers, can shake the whole house
Check out the classified on AVForums for some second-hand non-HDMI receivers - I'd guess you'll pick up a nice one for around £50-75
