Driven a few sorted dc2s and a b18 ek, all handled really nicely but they were all really lacking torque compared to a lude, a dc2 with a h22 would be nice I imagine!chrismc wrote:...but then have you ever driven a fresh EK9 (or DC2)? Different league as a drivers car compared to an EP3bennyboy wrote:Also, the EP3 was one of the 'Type R for the masses' - ie air con, practical etc and was only about £15k odd new, therefore very accessible and sold very very well. Built in Swindon, not Japan. EK9 is a bit more cult classic/overrated/overpriced IMHO. At the end of the day it's a torque-less tiny engine you have to rev the absolute tits off in a very ordinary, albeit tweaked, hatchback. You are paying for the heritage of it all.
I do like EP3's for what they are, a capable well specced practical car in the 200 odd bhp bracket, and for the money they are fantastic, it's just whether it suits you, but then that's the same for any car at all and it's why I spent the same as a ten-year-old-bushes-starting-to-go-so-dont-kid-yourself S2000 on my 18 year old Lude. No regrets.
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

I love the way a few of you are missing the bits where I said IMO etc. It's just that, my opinion.
Yes, driven the cars mentioned and I stand by what i said. No one, least of all me was trying to say any one car was better than the other, what I said was try them and see if they suit.
I was talking about the EK9 as I was responding about them being more highly sought after/expensive, I should have quoted so that's my bad.
I can't be made to want an EK9 I'm afraid, whatever anyone says - I just don't want one and IN MY OPINION it's not worth 10k TO ME. That said, I bought a '68 Mustang for 10k because it WAS worth it to me and later sold it for 15k.
The fact is, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one, and what the OP should do is what was said at the beginning, try them and see if it suits HIM.

Edited: because I keep repeating things lol.

Yup!
They are good cars.
I actually found the b16 engine a bit lifeless off VTEC too, but a screamer on it.
The B18 was much much better. In a slippery DC2 weighing 1100kgs it never felt flat. Without using VTEC mine still made 125 @ 5900, BUT then on to 196 @ 8200, holding 188 at the 8700 cutout (breathing mods & eCtune remapped) They really are about the top end fizz!
I wouldn't have an ek9 either Benny. No dramas!

Hey no worries, and reading my post back I honestly wasn't having a go, or at anyone in particular, just thought peeps were missing my point a bit!chrismc wrote:Yup!

Just to add to this and the many other posts in this thread...4thgenphil wrote:Ep3s are popular, so the assumption is they must be good!
I just went on a 20mile round trip in sleepy ol' Norfolk, saw 3 EP3s, no Preludes... and it was pretty much just one road.
Few weeks ago I went on a 300mile round trip to Gatwick, numerous EP3s, one DC5, no Preludes.
It's nice to have something a little uncommon IMO.
