Nearing The End Of The Road For My Car

Post by Gayno » Thu Jun 19, 2014 7:36 pm

Yep, you read that right. I'm considering moving on from Lude ownership at the end of this year.

As you may have read, my recent trip to Le Mans has highlighted some issues with the electrics on the car, and also a blow has developed in the exhaust. I know they may not be much, but after having spent a few hundred pounds on parts at the start of this year, it's all adding up.

Add to this the fact the rust is starting to come up again on the rear arches, sure it's not broken through yet, but that will only be a matter of time. I don't even want to think about what the sills might look like.

Ultimately there comes a time where you have to be a realist and call it a day. Unfortunately these cars aren't valued particularly highly as we all know, and I can no longer justify pouring hundreds of pounds a year into it just to keep it running. I believe I have now reached this pivotal point in my lude journey.

Couple that with the fact that this is the longest I have owned a car for - currently 4 years 6 months - and have an itch to get something different.

As it stands, I can see the car getting broken for parts, as with the probable rust issues, there won't be much value in it as a whole. This is a damn shame, as @confused and I have put a lot of time, effort and money into this car over both our ownerships, which will effectively be chucked in the bin. However, as the car has some fairly unique parts, I'm sure we'll see them popping up on other cars in the forum, so it will still be here in spirit.

I guess part of this post is to get you guys to talk me out of it and change my mind, but that's going to be hard to do, now I've sat and looked at the figures.

:( :( :( Sorry to hear this dude.

I too had an exact same thought as you last month, that it's time to call in a day as the values hasn't risen and I can't keep pouring more money after money in to it. Fortunately, i will still keep the car for couple more years. :)

Ive had similar thoughts for about the last 4 years on and off...
always seems like something needs fixed or replaced and paintwork and rust are always going to be an issue
owning a 4th gen is not an easy or cheap option
but there must be a good reason why we persevere :)

A bit of rust and a few other issues. Put your hand in your pocket, you will regret it if you don't.

That's a shame Adam, but I do understand. Nothing lasts forever..and a change is as good as the next..

The biggest loss would be your departure from the forum.

LG wouldn't be the same without you.

What kind of replacements have you been considering out of interest..
