aLapRecorder that I'm doing shows it all on the screen when both recording and playing back - but it won't output both together without a 3rd party bit of software, such as RaceRender - so just check before you buy anything!
And yeah it was just in a suction mount, it's actually a home-made hybrid of an old Garmin mount for the suction bit, and one of those clip-into-the-vents phone holder kits with the vent bit removed.

I have built up a silly amount of video camera's just for in car vidz and this is good because the iPhone video camera is decent quality. I have been mucking about with that app for the last hour and its quite good. You have to get the phone to process the vid with the data overlay and it spits the output file into the iPhone camera roll. I now have the output file on my desktop with the overlay on it, so its all good!
