hello

Post by Space1999 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:04 pm

I've posted a few times but wanted to introduce myself properly.

I'm a huge Honda fan, but haven't had any of its cars before – they've all been bikes! I've also had a number of 'Honda Rover' cars, like the 200, 600 and 800 – which are all very nice in their way.

Here's a link to my new Prelude 4G VTEC; 47k miles, one lady owner. It was very dirty and rough when I bought it a month ago, but I've got it up to quite a good standard already. Will be doing the arches next month, sorting the alloys, brakes, etc.

Thanks for all your help and advice so far...

David

Nice link! Would agree with all of it, too.

Am duty bound to add that the late, great LJK Setright's very last personally owned car was of course.... a silver '99 2.2VTI 5th :)

You're not alone on the bikes. My '99 5th is complemented by my '99 CBR1000F, called "Masumi".

There's a guy on here called bluejackhustler (I think) who also has a CBR of some description.

Your car looks superb.

EDIT: just spotted the other LJKS page on your site! I see you are well ahead of me on that one!

Thanks Doggo - and I have ridden in that very 1999 5G, with the great man driving. I suppose it's okay to say it now (since he's passed away), but we reached rather a lot over the legal limit in not a lot of time, most of the time with one of Setright's hands on the steering wheel and the other on his cigarette!

My Honda bike is a 1986 3,000 mile MTX200R two stroke ATAC power valve, which I pulled out of a barn last year for the first time since 1989 and restored! It's now on the road and turns in a sub-5 second 0-60 time, if I can keep the front wheel near the ground! Still, at this time of year it's more fun in the Prelude with the heater on! CBR1000s are lovely bikes (especially the later ones like yours) - always wanted one but there are just so many great Hondas out there it's hard to choose!

Hi ddoubledanny - yes I agree all Preludes are very special. And I'd very much like a tidy 3rd gen if you ever hear of one!

I had wondered if your blog was all your own words, thus indicative of your having met him. It was pretty clear from your style that you probably wrote in some professional capacity which I can now see is the case.

Not surprised about his driving - seems to accord with everything else I've ever read - but it is very nice to hear that he was a charming man too.

MTX sounds like great fun :D I've never ridden a stroker and must try it sometime.
I absolutely love the CBR. For me personally I can put my hand on my heart and say there isn't a bike I'd rather be riding. The linked brakes are brilliant, and the weight/length mean you can welly the throttle and it just takes off with the front just raising a little bit. Very comfortable but given muscle it will hustle. And it is beautifully built. As the CBR six/thou was I think Honda's first liquid cooled IL4 they obviously wanted to make sure it lasted and as with the VFR (Which I very nearly bought and must try some time) I think they were re-establishing their reputation, but I sense I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs here...

Who was the bloke (Bishop?) who used to write (Very well) about food all the time in Car back then?

Different but also very good - I always liked Russell Bulgin, too
