Amsoil MTF?

Post by Pushki » Sat Mar 30, 2013 12:31 pm

I've used Amsoil MTF for my gearbox since owning my car.
I've just ordered some more from Mr Opie as it's time to change it.

Reading the back of an old bottle it says "Not for use in limited slip applications".
This has left me slightly worried as I have an LSD box. :?

I haven't noticed anything amiss, but I don't want to damage my gearbox.
Can anyone reassure me that it's safe to use or should I be using another product?

I'm sure Vanzep uses Amsoil in his LSD box.

I'd guess that applies to clutch type LSD's. The oil probably contains friction modifiers that will ruin clutch type LSD's. ATR LSD's are helical so no clutch involved. So I'd think it's probably fine.

The prelude LSD is a viscous type isnt it? I would assume that would be fine to use.

I think it might depend if it's JDM, UKDM, or USDM. AFAIK the U2Q7 is helical

Somewhat reassuring, thanks guys! :|

The whole text reads "Not for use in engines, wet clutch applications, hypoid rear axles or limited slip applications".

Id check with @Indegolemon on the torquo gearbox fluid (dont know correct spelling) he used that instead of amsoil as its slightly better for boxes with no crunch. I would have used that if id know about it. Available from Nimbus motorsports in traders section. ;)

Too late vanzep. My order for Amsoil has been placed already.
I only read the instructions afterwards. I have been using Amsoil for the last 4-5 years without a problem. :?
