Mine burns absolutely no oil at all. I never have to top it up. :smug smiley:4thgenphil wrote:personally i like 5-30, she does burn a touch though using this but compared to heavier oil

Not changing because of any negative feelings about what I have so don't worry about that.
Mainly:
HAMP filters a generally a touch cheaper and you can usually get a deal buying a 3 pack etc. and they're designed by Honda with the VTEC engines in mind. Seems a smart choice to me!
Going by what I have read of other people's experiences on here the majority seem to lean more towards 5W-30 or 5W-40, plus for the average price you pay for Shell Helix you can spend relatively little more and get a 'better quality' oil.
I'm not going to say that a more expensive oil isn't worth it until I've tried it basically. As I've said, I've had no problems with it, but then again I don't really speak car. Oilman said it's (Helix) a good value mid-range oil and that it's a perfectly fine choice in another thread somewhere, but also I think price and rating by other members will generally dictate a better product. The guys around here mostly know what they're on about.
I'm not sure what I'll go for yet though.
In short, no real reason for the change other than curiosity.

10w40 semi - I've tried Magnatec, Gulf, Fuchs and Lucas. I preferred the Fuchs. I then switched to 5w40 fully synth Fuchs, and have pretty much stopped there if I'm honestCrunchyAdams82 wrote:Thanks Indigolemon. The Fuchs is the cheapest of the bunch there. In fact, very reasonably priced. I assume it works well for you, but have you tried any of the more expensive ones or an alternative viscosity? If so, findings?

I always got the feeling that it felt a bit hot and dry, not sure if that makes any sense either4thgenphil wrote:i hated magnatec in the lude, the car never felt "right" sounds daft i know![]()

Thinking about it though the temp gauge did actually seem to sit a touch lower after the oil change. Don't know if that's in my head though.

I may stick with 10W-40 still, mine does seem to use bit of oil... I'm almost certain I have a leak somewhere as there's a whole load of mess gearbox side but I can't figure out where it's coming from exactly.

I do like VTEC though

For the best protection listen to pushki, generally as a rule of thumb he'll do/use whats best for the car in the long run!

Good shout Donald, maybe this thread will help you make a decision too!
Thus far, 5w30 is sounding the most interesting to me. Brand is still tbc. Suggestions?
Filter. Although you're saying 'HAMP filters a generally a touch cheaper and you can usually get a deal buying a 3 pack etc. and they're designed by Honda with the VTEC engines in mind. Seems a smart choice to me!'...are they better than the K&N?
Pushki, loving your smug smile about not burning any oil, but have you tried anything different to see if you might be 'compromising' for 'user friendliness'?

Haha. Does the 'HAMP' conversation supersede the 'K&N' conversation though? Or Any other one for that matter?4thgenphil wrote:so now enter the "which hamp filter" conversation!

Can't comment on HAMP vs. K&N as I've never used a HAMP, but in addition to Phil's link (which IMO contains enough info to make a good choice), this guy seems to enjoy taking apart and reviewing filters

Come on then Phil, make a commitment. What is the best filter you can get for this engine? In your humble opinion?
