rotarys are quite simple beasts compared to your standard inline4 type engine. not alot of parts inside really.
Im not sure why mazda thought it a good idea to release another car with one in though and why so many bought them. Rotarys are renowned for being thirsty drinking oil and needing regular rebuilds, Also most mechanics wont have a clue as there just not common. Hence why the prices have dropped quicker than a hookers knickers

Hate to say it but if you want a rwd car isn't it much easier to buy one? Say a 200sx for instance, I'm not trying to be a party pooper
Just after the money spent and work going in it'd be an expensive exercise, and yes rx8,s have plummeted in value and it's largely due to the "spyrograph" (do you remember those?) engines, the tip of the rotor gets worn that requires an engine rebuild to replace, not all cars will suffer from this, a lot is scare mongering by people reading horror stories, the damage occurs by not keeping up servicing and brae-ing the car from cold. The low milers with fmsh should be fine if looked after and serviced correctly, in Japan they are a popular car and big bhp can be achieved if done correctly although that applies more to the rx7.
