shimples kepp it in vtec :) lol

you sure its not the auto tensioner for the cambelt??? when they pack up the belt goes slack and the belt slaps around on the cambelt cover making that sorta sound, I would take the rocker cover off asap and check if the cambelt is slack mate.

Dbo came round to have a look last night & he thinks it might be the lower crank. Difficult to say until it's pulled though. He said he'd post back on here later on to update anyway.

That's big ends for sure!
Which will also have ovaled the big end housing of those con rod and the piston will be tapping the under side of the head
Crank will be scrap

Tensioner failure is much less heavy a knock than that

Looks like this Lude is getting torn apart then!

The only redeeming feature of 'The Dog' was how well the engine ran. So now that's shot, it would be uneconomical to pursue this project any further. There's just too much needs doing.

So I'm going to be breaking it pretty soon I guess, and will be putting the proceeds towards a cleaner example. I'll then be working on that as my project car instead.

It is a shame to take it to pieces, but if you gave it a once over you'd see why it's just not worth saving. Plus there are some good parts to be had, which will surely be of use to some of you guys. :)

Dbo will confirm anyway.

Best thing to do is buy another prelude and keep the other one and swap all the best parts over and store some extra parts, its made my life so much cheaper and handier. Scrape the old shell then once you have cut out a few common rust panels, sounds like the bottom end to me from the start.

Ok so went to see Crunchy's lude last night and as said it is bad

the metal grinding noise is the crank, the bottom end is shot and the crank pully has got a wobble on
the car still pulls well and vtec crossover is badly aggresive ;) but putting your hand on the rocker cover you can feel the bottom end striking the head :( it is full rebuild or new engine

but when you look at the rest of the car it makes you so mad that the brummie scumbags did what they did to it
they fillered the roofrack channels and this has cracked to bits, they have badly fillered both rear quaters, not shaped it and sprayed over(in the wet as everything is now micro-blistered and water seeps from the bubbles)
the Milano red is now so pink it is not saveable  the sunroof has more rust than metal left.
i would not surprize me if the bottom end is not full of sawdust where they have tried to cover the fact it was going, they were the worst cowboys on the panet

on the plus she is a BB1 Si Vtec LSD and the M2B4 box is sweet :D and the interior is the mintest i have ever seen, is is so mint that even Pushki would be proud of it

i think Crunchy has sunk all his car budget into the "dog" and needs to break and sell everything he can to make enough to buy another cleaner example to be proud of ;) this lude is a 3k++ moneypit just to get it OEM  so i think he wants to raise about £800 and find a little gem ;)

the "Dog" needs to be put down  i'm sorry
