H22a manual gearbox fluid change, which stuff, how much?

Post by Red motegi » Fri Apr 26, 2013 2:29 pm

Hi folks, dropping all the fluids in the lude and replacing, got most things covered but just a bit undecided about what to use in the transmission, I'm edging towards using Honda fluid but I'm not sure how much I'll need to do a full replace? Any one out there know? Also I've seen loads of places selling it on eBay and such like at around £40 (3ltrs worth I think) does that work out much cheaper than the "good ole Honda dealers"? And is that enough for a full change?
Cheers peeps.

You can't stick any old oil into the gearbox.

I'd go for the Honda stuff.

You can also use Amsoil MTF i think :?:

Thats the best for our engine special for LSD

In Netherlands 1 liter for 15 euro and you need 1,9 liter

Ah cool, just done a bit of internet perusing, sounds like £10-£13 a litre bottle and I'll need 3 for good measure, so Honda shop it is....
Cheers folks

My search of last week was!

every oil fluid on the prelude is replaceable exept for gearbox!

in usa everyone and here in NL recomend the honda MTF-3 gearbox oil!

and for every prelude the same gearbox oil!

So for those 15 euro i'll take the honda oil then i know it's for sure good ;)

thats cool bud stick with it, honda mtf is good stuff and what was originally designed for the car :) . on recommendations from other prelude owners some of who track their car i decided to try the amsoil mtf with the intension of changing it back to honda if i wasnt happy, IMO it was an improvment and many years & miles later the gearbox is still silky smooth in every gear with no sign of letting go.

on a side note PAS fluid is one thats worth sticking to honda ;)
