Recharging battery

Post by Rocky » Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:31 am

Hi guys,

My cars going back on the road on Wednesday so I thought I'd do a service today.

However the battery is flat.

I have jump leads and another car to jump from but the way the lude is positioned, the cable won't reach.

Does anyone know if I can charge the battery using the jump leads and the MINI with the battery not in the lude?

Google hasn't given me a strait answer

No expert on this but I would think it could overload the alternator, why not tow car out to more easy position to get cables on to it?

I don't think jump leads and your mini battery will charge your lude battery. The charging process relies on an active flow through the battery. All you will be doing is adding another battery connected in parallel. I guess you don't have a battery charger to use independently? You could remove your mini battery and use jump leads to try and start your lude - but be aware that if you have to turn it over for too long you risk flattening the battery off your other car too.
I'm no autoelectrician, but that's my understanding anyway.

Just take the battery out the Mini and use it to jump the lude. I keep a spare car battery in the kitchen that I use for jump starting my cars. I'd seriously recommend buying a battery charger though, I'd be lost without mine.

Going to try and push the lude up the drive to get it in a better position to jump.

Kinda wish I had a charger, would make life soo much easier but I've never needed one.
