Post by claymore68 » Tue May 07, 2013 9:58 pm

Question for some of the more experienced spray painters , whats the chances of a reasonable result using rattle cans to respray front lip rear lip and oem sills, Ive just redone alloys and they have come out ok , soooooo should i have a go at the trimmings. advice please.

I take it that you are taking the trims off the car first before spraying? So you don't get any over spray on your car?

Just checking...

all i say is go for it too. dont be too abrasive on the rubbing down of the original paint all you need is a key for the paint to grab onto. etch primer is a great first coat, allow about 15 min between coats too. and do not spray in windy location as this gives you uneven application and can cause high spots that run. do not lay each coat to thick either and just take your time. now if you are unsure of the paint match, as its a low panel its not to bad. just get the lacquer right and it will shine,.

i use a black and decker work bench to rest my parts on to paint. so yes remove the bits.

Thanks guys , yip have the rear and front lips off already and the sills should come off easy-ish but they are plastic so I reckon i need to use a specific primer for them .
Sam followed your format for wheels and they look good so far...my good lady is a gem as she has let me turn conservatory in to spray booth :D
