Quick question ref. distributor replacement - if I take note of the position of the rotor arm in the old dizzy and install the new one with the rotor arm in the same position, it should work (in my mind), or is there a better way of doing a replacement?
Your'e along the right lines.
The rotor will have to be in a similar position so you pick up on the notches on the main shaft. Your dizzy is mounted on slotted holes (for timing adjustment). If you mark where the bolts are on your existing one, you can then copy these onto the new dizzy before you attempt to fit it. Strictly speaking you should set the timing (final positioning) using a strobe, but not many people have one to hand. If you mark it you should get pretty close to being right, so wont have any problems.

Yes you need to accurately match up the rotor arm positions from old to new. I'm guessing the rotor arm is keyed so should be relatively easy to do.

Try to make a note of how the original dizzy lines up with Head too (scribe a line) so you can fit the replacement in a similar position.

You'll need to set the ignition timing with the new dizzy fitted with a timing light too.

I work on camp if you are local and need any assistance...

Yep, and the dizzy is driven by an offset slot, so you can't get it 180 out. Just mark where the bolts are as suggested, so you bolt it back in at the same place.

The replacement dizzy has not made any difference...! Unless anyone has any further suggestions I'll have to wait until next week before calling out a mobile mechanic - anyone recommend one from the Oxford area or a national firm that could do a diagnosis???

Just my luck :suicide:

I still reckon it's the cambelt slipping. What condition do the belt/teeth look in?

Thanks for the info. I've found them on the map (Fairford) and they are only 10 miles down the road. I'll get in contact early next week and see if they can come out and take a look. If not then I might be able to get Green Flag to take the Lude over there, or get a tow from someone here on site.

Good to know there's Lude-specialists just down the road - that'll certainly help with diagnosis.

If you're even in the centre of Cartoontown town come down the side of the co-op and we're on the opposite side of the road, building the new Morrisons, alongside the Beehive pub. Let me know if you're around as it's always good to meet a fellow Lude-lover :D

I'm not sure if the cambelt has slipped as I've not had the time to take the cover off - judging by the sound the engine makes on turnover it's a possibility - would this not bring up a CEL fault code relating to the cam shaft sensor?

Dobbs.
