If you think you have dirty fuel, should you not replace the fuel filter?

just to update - fault reappeared today and the car started to stall and the engine check light came on - came to a halt on a busy road near the centre of town - it wouldnt restart so i had to push it up and over the pavement onto a patch of grass - just as well its the BB4 model - if it had been a fully loaded BB1 or a 5th gen i might have struggled
I couldnt find any problem under the bonnet but fortunately i had a spare distributor in the boot - fitted that in 5 minutes flat and the car started up straight away. So turns out it wasnt a fuel related issue and definately nothing to do with buckshee fuel from @Merlin it was the distributor failing and then going pop - i had a look at the rotor arm on the dead disti and it was pretty mashed up with loads of notches on the contact surface :? so im assuming thats what the problem was.

funny thing is i only bought the distributor of @newkid on Tuesday and its was only cause @Bri mentioned hed fixed his lude with a new disti that i thought i would carry a spare with me just in case :)

Is there anything you don't have a spare of?

Get it timed up properly now, you should be golden. I bought my own strobe a few years back, great investment because I always need it, it was £35 on ebay, not a cheap ass one either.
