Balance shaft seal retainer?

Post by Angus » Mon May 27, 2013 8:50 am

Still got a weep of oil from the edge of the sump, having changed the gasket.

Looks like it's coming from the bottom of the timing belt cover (belts, all seals, etc recently changed). My first suspect (without taking the belt covers off) is the balance shaft seal, even though it's spiffingly brand new.

I'm thinking the part number for the balance shaft seal retainer is 06923-P0A-306 and it seems to be available from here ...

http://www.diyspareparts.com/parts/hond ... 923p0a306/

Can anyone confirm this is the right part?

Ta. :)

Balancer shaft retainer kit. Honda pt no.06923-POA-306. Maindealer cost £3.47

its is indeed the right part but you might want to check the rocker cover gasket at that side - if you havnt used some silicone at the edge of the humps then oil can trickle down from the rocker - just something you might want to check before you get started ripping the timing belt covers off.

Aye, I changed the rocker gasket at the weekend just to make sure, with appropriate dobs of silicone.

I'm sure I read that the retainer thing can be installed without removing belts and tensioners and stuff ... is that right?

It was all new seals when I got the timing belt done recently, so I'm working on the (probably false knowing my luck) assumption that the balancer shaft seal is the chief candidate here.

yeah im sure you can fit the balance shaft seal retainer without having to take anything off except the bottom cam belt cover - the other thing i changed whilst i think about it is the oring that goes at the bottom of the dipstick - this is in the same area and does leak so check that as well. having said that ive done all of the above and ive still got a small drip at bottom of the cam cover - its only a tiny drip and ive convinced myself that any leak will simply clog up and stop leaking after a while:lol:

Ah, cheers. Must investigate the dipstick too.

It actually stopped leaking for a couple of days there, including a freaking insane run into Aberdeen to catch a train on Tuesday, but I see it's back this morning.
