I really haven't got a clue what I'm doing :?

The ALB light has come on on my 1991 4G Prelude.
I'm interested in finding non garage solutions initially after they were talking about needing pumps at £500 or whole drive shafts in order to replace a sensor ring. In either case it was going to cost me labour to find out what the problem is and if it's worth having the work done.
I believe that one problem can be if the battery is not charged up enough and I don't use the car every day, so have given it some good runs , but understand that the ALB light stays on until you do a reset thing, or pull the fuse. Fuse number 27.
So having looked diligently in the fuse thing under the dash and failed to find a 27 I went back online, and discovered that there is another fuse box in the engine compartment. (My ventures under the bonnet are normally limited to topping up the washbottle and checking the oil and coolant levels).
Anyway the fuse box has got a solid looking cover secured by three plastic clamps. One site said push the tab down to get the cover off. Nothing is moving. If I do get the cover off am I ok to get in there with a pair of pliers and pull the fuse out, replacing it after a few seconds?
I also assume that if the ALB light was caused by the battery issue it shouldn't come back on. If it does I guess it's time to get it to the garage!

I had the same kind of trouble with my 4WS light, it kept coming on then stayed on solid. So I took the battery completely off for 20 mins (just took off the positive terminal) put it back on again and it reset the ECU. It might not fix your problem but its free and might work?! If not, I'm sure some other people on here will be able to give you some expert advise. I would never take my lude to a garage now as I can get all the advise I need off here.

Hi,
A very (resonably anyway!) quick and free thing you can try is to jack up your car, whip the wheel off and check the sensors.
Just behind the disk is a slotted ring with a sensor right above it. If the slots in the ring gets all filled with crud, or the sensor gets covered in it, there's your problem.
Wipe them down, put your wheel back on and Robert is your mothers brother! ;)

If you have an ALB light, then it's very likely you also have pop up headlights, and you're actually driving a 3rd generation prelude.

You can read the fault codes on the ALB system on the car and find out exactly what's wrong pretty easily:

the fusebox cover can be a bit stiff to get open push in the two tabs at the front and try and hinge it backwards towards the windscreen a bit and then lift it up and off :)
