96 month cambelt replacement interval for H22A?

Post by -Z- » Thu Jun 20, 2013 2:32 am

There’s a seller on eBay, trying to convince me 96 months / 72k miles is the official replacement interval for an H22A. The car in question is a 1999 194bhp version. It’s cambelt was last replaced in 2006 at 58k miles.

I pointed him to PerformanceAutoworks post in this thread: http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... 21-10.html = 72 months / 72k miles. But he still insists his owners manual states 96 months.

The figures I quoted were from Hondas own workshop manual :-) I take it you are looking at the Chiltern manual?

No there is a full US Honda copy about (I have one) in addition to the UK manuals + supplements. I prefer picking my favourite version out of my library and flicking through the paper pages personally! :P

And yes, it's 60k miles or 60 months usually. Usually the case with any cambelt cars. Timing chain on my Mazda 6 FTW!

So the fact you had it done at 58k sounds bang on. But I'd look to do it again around 100k personally (120k would be next), especially for the age of the car.

My 5th gen was done at 55K and now at 104K I am replacing it again. Incidentally the timing belt and balance shaft belt I just removed looked perfect, almost brand new.

Hey @Merlin, have you bought all the parts you need to do your swap? I am selling a bunch of oil seals etc that I didn't use when I did my belts..
