15w40 is a bit thick, but it shouldn't affect things that much in small quantities. How much of a top up was it?
Ideally you want to drop all the oil and replace it with whatever the book spec oil is.

My import always smoked after an oil change, get her up to working temperature then go for a blast on a high speed road and redline a couple of times. If it doesn't sort it but it's not too bad just keep an eye on oil level, plugs and white sludge in the oil filler cap, could be nothing but best to know before something dies.
As a side note the oil will be ok but generally stick to a good semi or fully synthetic

Mine always did that until she had a good blast, if there is no gunk in the oil filler cap could well be the valve stem seals have given up, not exactly major but a pain in the ass. Try giving her a good blast and if it doesn't help you have an oil leak, generally speaking it could be head gasket or stem seals, seeing if one or all plugs get oiled up after a few miles will be a good indicator, if it's all of them I'd say stem seals, if it's just one that points more to the head gasket which isn't too cheap but can be done on your own if you're handy with tools and have the manual etc. Let us know.

Right got my m8 to take it down bypass and when we hit about 80 the smoke went so we gave it a good run.
Got back and all of a sudden she started smoking again gave it a bit of a rev and the problem is still there. So had a look at spark plugs and no2 is wet looking. all the others look ok.on closer inspection water is coming out the exhaust but only a little bit. does this mean head gasket if so how much to fix and how hard thanks guys.

Colour of the smoke should give you clues man:
Black - Likely Overfuelling
Blue - Burning Oil
White - Burning Coolant

are you sure your not just seeing the standard vapor made by the h22? it kicks out a huge amount of what looks like smoke when warming up.
iv posted and seen posted quite a few threads asking if the car is ok.
water would not be coming out the exhaust from a duff headgasket and you not hear something wrong while its running. imo.
