Hi Guys,

As some of you will be aware, I am going to be getting a H22 manual conversion done on my Gen 3 in about 4 months time or so. I have been gathering parts, as well as researching, and one thing that has come up is a dry sump application.

This would be particularly useful in my setup, due to the H22 having to sit so low in the Gen 3; to allow for bonnet clearance. The stock engine downpipe already scrapes from time to time over speed bumps, as the car has been lowered 40mm or so (maybe 30mm; I don't remember which). So I dread to think what issues I'd get with the 2.2 lump.

So for this reason, I'm looking into a dry sump which is of course a few inches shallower. I can then have the custom exhaust I will need to have anyway, made up to fit this instead, which will in turn give me more road clearance.

Thing is, I'm not sure what bits I actually need to make up a dry sump kit, where to get them from, or how much it will all likely cost.

I looked on the 'Moroso' website, but I'm still a bit confused as to what I actually need. Oil pump, drive kit, oil tank, external oil filter, breather tank, scavenge manifold, etc. Source: http://www.moroso.com/articles/articled ... code=10912

edited as that wasnt really helpful!

mate, its ALOT o cash and then a custom down pipe/maifold

they have fitted k20's which are alo taller into things with less space with no real issues and they were in cars that were actually lowered :P :lol:

being honest i think you are making it all alot more complicated for your self for now real gains!

So what are you saying, you don't think it's worth me getting a dry sump kit? Not necessary?

personally i wouldnt bother i'd be suprised if it gave you that much extra clearance

there is someone with a h22'd 3rd on here, maybe worth as ask?

If it was me I'd try it with the normal sump and if it causes problems add the dry sump after as its is pretty accessible :)

Dry sumps are really only cost effective on engines worth thousands. A new h22 can be had for around 200 so there really isn't any point spending that much money trying to save it IMO.
236bhp and 170ft/lb stock :whistle:

Yeah, only problem with that is I've got to have a custom exhaust fitted for this application, and I want to have it measured closely around the sump bottom to give as much clearance underneath as possible really. So I've got to make a decision as to what sump I need & get it all right first time. :roll:

If yr looking to spend that sort of money why not go k20? You also have to consider that on some engines the gearbox sits as low as the sump so you may not gain any clearance just peace of mind.

What sort of money? Does anybody have a rough figure for the parts? Labour isn't too much of an issue because it would all be fitted at the same time as the conversion is being done. :)
