As I said on the phone Alex, this really needs proper investigation rather than just bolting a new oil pump on (don't buy a second hand one). I really don't like the way that these guys are continuosly firing your engine up and waiting for "oil to circulate", this is doing it no favours at all.
To me it sounds like the oil pump gears have started chewing themselves up - this is not exactly a common problem but I have seen it happen on a few H22s. If this is the case the swarf from these gears will get everywhere including in the head/vtec solenoid filter etc.
On that note - a blocked VTEC solenoid will not cause low pressure issues it will simply prevent vtec from working.
Seriously, get the car back upto us and we'll diagnose this properly for you which I can assure you will cost less in the long run than allowing people to work on it without the correct knowledge or correct equipment.
It's not an issue for us if the car needs to be here for a few weeks (like you mentioned on the phone), I would sooner have it here so I can go through it all properly to find the cause and give the engine a good flush during the work.
Give me a shout and lets get it arranged

take their advice m8, what they are saying is spot on. my mate has a lotus esprit sc4 and rang a specialist about a possible clutch problem they quoted him £500 all in for fix + trailer cost to wiltshire he got his friend the mechanic he worked with to do the job £600 later on new cluch(wasn't needed) he car was parked on his drive way now for 2 years not one day of driving(he was very unhappy) so he bit the bullet and rang the specialist again, it got trailored up there and 30 mins later they rang to say it was a simple job on the clutch solnoid and she was running so he could have been using that car for the last 2 years.
moral: let the people who know do!!!! and you must trust them you rang them first!!! power to PAW.

Hi Rich,
I know your right, I just don't want to leave you with the car taking up space while I get the money together. But if your happy to then I'll get it up to you and get the "save my lude fund" started because I'm sure as hell not going to break it!
Going to tow the car back to the safety of my drive shortly, I'll drop you and email with the details.
Cheers

So... It's alive again
Rich has worked his magic and all is good again!
Getting a lift up to PAW in the morning, then a quick stop over at LLL's for a super secret meeting
then back to Wales and hopefully some years of trouble free driving with a couple trips to PAW that aren't an emergency!

It was the oil pump as Rich first diagnosed over the phone when it happened! The gears had started grinding, giving off some swarf and causing the PRV to stick open dumping the oil pressure
Very lucky the light came on when the car was on the drive and not anywhere else. Got an oil pressure gauge in now too so can keep a closer eye on things rather than the standard your fooked light
