i'm guessing replacing the seals in the aircon system is quite a complicated task then... pulling things hard to remove isn't too bad but refitting isn't always as easy!
(my air con only lasted a few months when i had it regassed, and its all smelly when you first turn it on or off)

The smellyness is the moisture off the evaporator. This happens in my Civic as well.

Massive help! I've done all the work except remove the pump as I didn't know what belt to get. One on order now found on eBay just typed in the part code: 6pk913
£6.99 + £1.59 P&P 1st Class Royal Mail delivery. Cheers!

I've taken the condenser fan & motor off as well. Would it still have worked or is it now redundant?

If you leave the AC fan still attached and wired in the fan will come on when you press the AC button. All it will do is act as extra cooling for your radiator (if you need it).
