Adding 4WS

Post by Mudgey » Mon Aug 19, 2013 1:55 pm

Yup, having a crap turning circle is no fun! So is it possible to add 4WS to a type S? I think I have the mechanics sorted out in my head but I have no idea about the electrical side of things, how integrated is the wiring harness into the chassis loom and is it going to be a case of splicing everything to get it all out inc the 4WS ECU?

I really miss 4WS which I once had on a UK Lude and it made driving around town a breeze. I drove the Type S into a multi storey car park the other day and what a PITA that was, the turns are so tight I had to take some of them in 2 attempts.

Cheers,
Mudgey

No idea mate, but it sounds like a lot of work! My donor 'lude has 4WS and my current car doesn't, so if you want any bits off of it you're welcome to come and get them!

not easy..

wiring loom would be a headache,

not sure how it would work with the atts both use the abs sensors right?

He binned the ATTS.

One of the funniest builds ever IMO.

1. Buys TypeS.
2. "Hi guys I'm K20 swap supercharging it, gonna get rid of ATTS lol"
3. Everyone else: "Why didn't you start with a different base car? Shame to rip up a TypeS."
4. Ignores and gets rid of the main feature of the TypeS.
5. "Can I retrofit 4WS?"
6. ?????????
7. Still calls it a TypeS.

Great work has gone into this build, not disputing that by any means. Anyway, if you can get your head around the wiring side of things I should think it would be minimal work compared to what you've already done.

  really should have started with an ordinary jdm lude but I am sure if you have managed all you have done you should be able to manage the 4ws although I am not sure how it would sort the signal from the ecu

Does a Type S actually say Type S on the VIN?

lol Donald,

I had the car for over a year before I started the swap and looked at every avenue for more power. Seeing I had done a bit of work to the car already it didnt make sense to sell it and get another that could either have problems or was of a lower spec than mine, let alone the chassis had only done 60k at the time, cars with that mileage don't pop up very often! There is more to a Type S than ATTS...

I think the 4WS swap will be worth doing only if there is a complete car to work from and trace the wiring back through, what gen car do you have bb1boy?

To be fair, you won't have to wait thatlong. You'd better hurry up mate.
