they are compatible with the engines, interally they are different.

why not swap the ratios out of an m2a4 onto the atr final drive and swap the counter shafts over?

I did. Just can't remember from with box. But it was from some Accord. I put 4,64 FD, so I used even longer 5th gear. As I can find now - 0,735.
If you need more details, I can find out exactly what I did.

I might do that then with my atr box I have an m2a4 that came with my built engine

We gave the box to a local Honda shop (not an official one) to do the job but after comparing the parts the mechanic told us the differences are quite significant and he refused to do it. So, do we have anyone who tried this before?

@Froidas: I would appreciate it, if you can share some more details about the way you do this. We tried to put 5th gear from M2A4 box into U2Q7...

I haven't tried M2B4 or M2A4, because these are expensive boxes. And mainly because their 5th gear was too short for me.

So at first I calculated what I wanted. I checked all Honda boxes (you can find ratio charts online very easily) and came up with 0,757 - 0,735. These are found in several boxes, so after ringing several scarp yards I found N2C4 in Accord CC7 with F20 engine - it has 0,735.

My box: U2Q7 + 4,64 FD + 0,735 5th gear. 5th gear is not too long, switching from 4th is smooth. I'm very happy with the overall result.
