You could put 2 nuts on the post and lock them together. Then undo the whole post from the head. The post bolts into the head and can be replaced.

Thanks for the advice. im gonna wait until next week to give it a go as the oil leak seems to have stopped since doing the work and i dont want to rush it before modified mania on sunday and not be able to take the lude.

Hopefully will be straightforward. got the kit to do the gasket and grommets. will put up a tutorial for it when i do it.

I had a go at getting the rocker cover nut off today with no joy. its an acorn nut so i cant put another on top, i tried wedging something underneath the grommet and prising it up and pulling up on the rocker cover whilst undoing the nut but neither worked.

Any other ideas on getting it off short of dremmeling the nut and grommet?

What's the nut doing? Just spinning and not coming off? Or locked solid? Etc

I had one like that put a lever under it when your winding it off the thread is probably stripped if you lever it up slightly it might catch a clean thread

Yep, this.

Failing that you'll probably have to cut it.

was thinking of trying to cut the grommet out from under the nut so i can get some proper leverage on the nut itself. will give it a try soon. thanks for the advice guys!
