Sounds like the chocolate box is dying, autoboxes on Preludes are quite common for failing. As already mentioned.....swap it for a manual box.

think i might just do that however i have just checked the fluid and it is both a little low and smells burnt so il be changing that and seeing what happens first. iv seen alot of talk on here about the best A/T fluid and i know it can be expensive the cost i can accept but are the home-brand fluids i.e halfords really that bad?rob quilter wrote:Sounds like the chocolate box is dying, autoboxes on Preludes are quite common for failing. also iv noted that the problem is near non-existent when the car is cold, any thoughts?
and thanks for all the help so far

i had that very throught when i was looking at buying the lude and i read up that lot of the problems with them can be caused by the fluid or temps in the box and i looked into the coolers - now correct me if im wrong but there is a oil cooler of sorts built into the rad, now my rad is drokked so this isn`t going to help temps in the box anyway would it be a case of drilling and tapping new take off and return points or can the existing hoses be modifyed? and what would need to be done i.e blocking off the fittings on the standered rad?mercutio wrote:could be the fluid then buddy when its hot it may be losing viscosity try a change and then maybe get an aftermarket oil cooler

just get longer hoses the hoses just slip on and are held by spring clips
