I've swap gearbox in my bb1 by myself. Before that I did complete rebuild. And the only one person who helped me was my lady. God bless her because that's definately job for four hands ;-) :twisted:

if I were you I would take the engine and box out together and swap the boxes and put it all back in the 5g autobox is so heavy its a 2 man job to lift and manouvere it

Is the 4g the same easier to lift out as i dont have access to a hoist :(

they are both really heavy buddy it can be done from underneath but I am telling you its bloody heavy

Auto box is very heavy. And yes engine and box out at same time as the torque converter bolts and dowls are a pain in the ass. Also there is a stiffening plate that links the box to the engine has very hard to get to bolts.

Last time i changed a gearbox was wen i was a kid on a ford capri :lol: an i just used a trolley jack to hold the weight while we pulled it out so hopefully it will still work

Changed a 4th gen manual with the car on axle stands, not the easiest job in the world but was doable with the engine in situ. Couldn't comment on the difficulty of an auto box swap tho mate, sorry.
