the part i took off was all melted so i knew it could have been the problem. i never had issues with the stereo though, it turned off when the car did and came back on as it should. when i put the new switch on, i never had a problem for the rest of ownership.

really sorry dude, i didnt record a part number and no longer have the receipt

You know this was on a recall so you can get it done at the main dealer for free

Safety recall
NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 02v120000
Year: 1997-99
Honda TSB unk
Recall Date: 05/20/2002
Manufacture dates: unk
Electrical contacts in the ignition switch could degrade when current passed through them during start-up -- worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. This fix was for dealers to replace the ignition switch. Affected many Honda models.

Whether Honda will replace the ignition switch for free depends on the conditions of the recall and the expected service life of the part -- chances are pretty good, but not 100%.

i had this happen on my 4g, it melted the contacts in the switch, mine lost total power intermitently, i had to drive it home with one hand on the key, holding it @ a point where it was making contact. i brought another but has of yet to fit it, i just bent the contacts in the original, problem hasnt reapeared yet but i have a spare ready :D

me too thought it was were i had fitted a starter button, but she just cut out on me and had to be towed off main road. if you got the key in just the right place the dash would light and away you went till you hit a bump and the key turned. stripped the ignition re soldered and not a problem since.

lol this is the reply i have gotten from a webchat with honda uk
Well it would need to be cofnirmed by Honda in Japan first. I can give you a website to their feedback form (which will generate an email to them), but the site is in Japanese, so you may want to enter the address into an online translater. The link is: https://waigaya.honda.co.jp/user/enquet ... o=20070201

Just go to your local stealers mate 4th gen no recall 5th gen got recalled also happened on my 4th gen and I went to the stealers and cost me 150 for the privilege and it can be fixed easier and cheaper on a side note I did have a cat 1 alarm so took them 3 hours extra to re wire every thing and didn't change me for that

its easly fixed, resolder would be best but my clever bending on the contacts worked a treat, 2 years and going strong
